Starlight Polish Mythological Wishes Collection

Starlight Polish Mythological Wishes Collection

sent in exchange for my honest review

Starlight and Sparkles has sent me 6 beautiful new toppers to review. The Mythological Wishes collection consists of six toppers with combined color shifting shimmer and multichrome glitter!  The shimmer in these are unicorn pee and UP sibling pigments. On the Starlight and Sparkles website, purchasing four or more bottles of polish from the Mythological line in a single order will give a discount of 3.5% on all Mythological polishes in the order, which will be reflected in the cart as "Mythological line discount." That includes a lot more than just this collection, there are many offshoots of the Mythological line. Issa has nicknamed each unicorn pee shimmer after a mythological creature so it's easy to find the ones you like and the "Wishes" part refers to this chroma flair type glitter. These were used several years ago by a few different makers and Issa has been hoarding some for a while. Anyone remember Ninja's Facets collection? Mythological Wishes aren't meant to be dupes, they differ formula wise and in the balance of glitter and shimmer. Issa wanted these to be unicorn pee toppers accented by glitter, not equal parts. There were only 3 facets but those do have counterparts here. This is really exciting news to those of us who have been lemming those polishes, it's a nice opportunity for collectors to grab a similar backup for a beloved rare and discontinued and a different formula for those with a preference for Starlight's ready to use formula.

  •  15mL bottles are $16.00, 7.5mL bottles are $11.00. (I was sent minis and they feel like full size bottles in the hand, same for the brushes.)
  • The collection releases May 17th at 7pm Mountain time at Starlight and Sparkles site and Etsy shop. International stockist Psyche's Beau will have a pre-order beginning at 12pm PST on Saturday May 18th.
  • I used one coat of each topper over various bases. The skittle mani bases are Julep Lupita, Pretty  Serious Baron Von Bootiful, Bettie Pain Forgive Me Your Highness, Starlight Obsidian.
  • One coat of glossy topcoat on each swatch, matte topcoat on ring finger of the colorful shimmers.  Densely packed with shimmer, only one thin coat is needed unless you just like the look of more.    on a few of the swatches the glitter looks a tiny bit textured but I couldn't feel that so they are            smoothed by only one coat of topcoat. No way these would ever be opaque on their own.
  • These naturally dry to a satin finish.
  • Removes easily, no texture.
  • Very easy to use, smooth and even application with good dry time. Brush is on the skinny side.
  • Photos taken in natural light, sunlight, and artificial full spectrum light.

  • PHOENIX WISHES
Phoenix Wishes’ shimmer shifts from red to gold to green, and flashes vivid red and bright green at the extremes of its color range, the multichrome glitter shifts from pink through red, orange, gold and into a slightly green-ish yellow.  The shimmer is the same unicorn pee pigment used in the other Phoenix polishes in the Mythological line.

Shown over Bee's Knees Lacquer Bathsheba undies. I absolutely love it over this color and the teal   above. THE "OG" unicorn pee shift. Most similar to Ninja Color Changing Garnet.

    DRAGON WISHES

Dragon Wishes’ shimmer shifts from bronze gold to green, and flashes orange and teal at the extremes of its color range, and the multichrome glitter shifts from bronze through yellow and green, and into turquoise.  The shimmer is the same UP sibling pigment used in the other Dragon polishes in the Mythological line.

Shown over Colors by Llarowe Ain't Nobody Leavin 'til We Sing the Blues. I love how this shade can warm up any base and it's always a favorite of mine. Most similar to Ninja Zultanite.

    UNICORN WISHES
Unicorn Wishes’ shimmer shifts from cool green to deep blue, and flashes turquoise and vivid indigo at the extremes of its color range, and the multichrome glitter shifts from a teal-y green through blue, violet, and purple and into fuchsia.  The shimmer is the same UP sibling pigment used in the other Unicorn polishes in the Mythological line.  Unicorn Wishes and Kelpie Wishes use the same glitter – unless you really love shifters in the teal-blue-violet range, you might not need both.

Shown over Bee's Knees Thunderbird Feather undies. I'm partial to how the purple shift at an extreme angle looks over this mustard. If you love both green and teal, you do need this and Kelpie Wishes ;). Most similar to Ninja Alexandrite.

     PHANTOM WISHES
Phantom Wishes’ shimmer shifts from brilliant blue to violet to purple and into near invisibility, and the multichrome glitter shifts from blue through purple, violet, fuchsia, pink, and orange.  The shimmer is the same UP sibling pigment used in the other Phantom polishes in the Mythological line.

Shown over Bee's Knees Molded Mauve undies.

    PHANTASMAL CHIMERA WISHES
Phantasmal Chimera Wishes contains a combination of the four colors of multichrome glitter and the UP and UP sibling pigments used in Phoenix Wishes, Dragon Wishes, Unicorn Wishes, Kelpie Wishes, and Phantom Wishes.  The effect is a profusion of colors and shiftiness.

Shown over Bee's Knees Jackaloupe Antler undies. This polish has 5 unicorn shimmers and 4 glitters, it's definitely a rainbow in a bottle. The effect is reminiscent of holo in that respect but it shifts with every angle and there's no greying.

    KELPIE WISHES
Kelpie Wishes’ shimmer shifts from teal to violet, and flashes aqua and purple at the extremes of its color range, and the multichrome glitter shifts from a teal-y green through blue, violet, and purple and into fuchsia.  The shimmer is the same UP sibling pigment used in the other Kelpie polishes in the Mythological line.  Unicorn Wishes and Kelpie Wishes use the same glitter – unless you really love shifters in the teal-blue-violet range, you might not need both.

I'm not happy with my photos of this over the skittle, straight on the shimmer is very teal but I didn't capture it and didn't have time to try again as I already accidentally did another one twice lol. The swatches over Bee's Knees Songbird Cinnamon capture it though. :)

Right On The Nail reviewed these and did a great jon showing the shift range by using 2 coats each over black. Polished Lifting chose to show them over various colors like I did and I tried to chose different shades than she did. It's so hard to choose favorites with these shimmers, I love them all but Phantasmal Chimera Wishes really blew me away by being so incredibly sparkly.
