Starlight Polish June 2019, By Request
PRESS SAMPLES
sent in exchange for my honest review

The Starlight Polish fan group has been so excited and enamored with these custom polishes that Issa and the super sweet gal who commissioned them have decided to make them available for general purchase! All 6 use the same red/green/gold unicorn pee shimmer used in the Mythological line's Phoenix polishes. I am thrilled to get to swatch them for you, they are all so beautiful!

I'm often too shy to wear this lipstick. I love it but I don't know, it's just out of my comfort zone. I really loved how this look came out though and I finally had success with Seance Weather afyer probably 4 other attempts. Scroll to the bottom for a bonus mani. This is a custom polish a friend of mine had made and gifted one to me. Plum Fire by Starlight Polish.

Phantasmal Collection
PRESS SAMPLES
Starlight Polish is at it again! A new creature is being added to the Mythological family. Many will be cross posted in her shop as there are cross over polishes. Here's a little help understand which creatures coincide with which "unicorn pee or sibling". It's not too hard, Phoenix is red/gold/green, Dragon is green/gold, Kelpie is teal/violet, Unicorn is green to blue. Anything 'Song" includes holo. Chimera is a combination of the aforementioned 4 pigments. "Night" indicates a black jelly base and the Opal collection is flakie based in additional to the sibling creatures. Everything that is being added will include this new pigment/creature, Phantom. Join the fan group, we have charts.

STARLIGHT POLISH MYTHOLOGICAL OPALS

5 opalescent shimmer/flakie combination toppers
PRESS SAMPLES

The Mythological Opal collection is five flakie effect toppers that combine aurora flakes (the larger, flake versions of aurora pigments) and colorshifting "unicorn pee" and 'unicorn pee sibling" pigments.  They are truly opalescent and stunning and best of all not limited edition except for the fact that these special shimmers are rare and discontinued. I am thrilled to swatch for the lovely Issa once again and I actually gasped when I unwrapped these. My bottle shot does not do the multi-faceted beauties justice. They are packed with flakies and shimmer. These are a continuation and extension of the current Mythological collections. If you are familiar with those collections you will easily find your favorite creature/ color-shift shimmer (u.p. sibling). I have also taken macro videos and posted them to IG. They are linked here for the most part, I'll edit the final 2 in as I post them.

This collection will be available in the Starlight and Sparkles etsy shop on June 29th and at stockist Psyche’s Beau on June 30th at 12pm PST for those of you who are international or want to add other brands to your order.

15ml bottles will be $16.00 usd and 7.5ml bottles are $11.00.
Personally I have no trouble using this size bottle, it feels like a full size in the hand and has a full sized brush so if you are on a budget (or own approximately eleventy billion polishes like me) this is a great option.

All of my photos are taken in natural light and show 1 coat of each topper over various  bases EXCEPT the very last mani which I will describe at the end. Topped with Vapid's topcoat and a matte from Finger Paints.

They were all very easy to use, not too thick or thin, appropriate dry time for ease of use. Flakes lay down nicely and don't require fishing. No trouble with removal, flakes slide right off unlike glitter.

PHOENIX OPAL

Phoenix Opal - an iridescent flake and shimmer topper with red to green shifting aurora flakes (large flake versions of the aurora pigments) and red to green UP pigment, which shifts from red to gold to green, and flashes vivid red and bright green at the extremes of its color range.

OGUP y'all! This is the quintessential pigment that is most known and popular, for good reason. I have used this oval 4 undies and alone. Video here.

Thumb: Phoenix Opal solo
Index: Femme Fatale Cinderella
Middle: Lacquester Don't be Shy
Ring: Defy & Inspire Rock of Love
Pinky:Starlight Phoenix Kyanite

KELPIE OPAL

Kelpie Opal - an iridescent flake and shimmer topper with teal to violet shifting aurora flakes (large flake versions of the aurora pigments) and teal to violet UP sibling pigment, which shifts from teal to violet, and flashes aqua and purple at the extremes of its color range.
The Kelpie shimmer is always one of my favorites and this installment is no different, no small part due to the HUGE flakes present in this topper. Video here.

I have used it solo on the thumb nail and over several Kelpie polishes.
Index: Femme Fatale Eilowny
Middle: Starlight Kelpie Garnet
Ring: Kelpie Dravite
Pinky: Kelpie Night

DRAGON OPAL

Dragon Opal - an iridescent flake and shimmer topper with gold to green shifting aurora flakes (large flake versions of the aurora pigments) and gold to green UP sibling pigment, which shifts from bronze gold to green, and flashes orange and teal at the extremes of its color range

This one surprised me by how much I love it. It's quite opulent yet delicate. I have used it alone on the thumb nail and over:

Index: Different Dimension Not in the Loop
Middle: Illyrian Dazed
Ring: Tonic Edna
Pinky: Starlight Dragon Night

Video here.

UNICORN OPAL

Unicorn Opal - an iridescent flake and shimmer topper with green to blue shifting aurora flakes (large flake versions of the aurora pigments) and green to blue UP sibling pigment, which shifts from cool green to deep blue, and flashes turquoise and vivid indigo at the extremes of its color range.

I love this most over grey and red but it does show up over the blue better in person. Used solo on the thumb nail and over:

Index: Native War Paints Nude Nikki
Middle: Unicorn Kyanite
Ring: Cirque Succulent
Pinky: Unicorn Garnet

Video here.

CHIMERA OPAL

Chimera Opal - an iridescent flake and shimmer topper with a blend of the aurora flakes (large flake versions of the aurora pigments) and UP and UP sibling pigments in the other four Mythological Opal toppers.

This one has ALLLL the shimmers! I have used it alone on the thumb nail. Video here.

Index: Femme Fatale Graveborn
Middle: Illyrian Rogue
Ring: Femme Fatale Jupiter
Pinky: Cirque Plush Suede

All the Opals (one coat  each) over Starlight Obsidian. The shimmer base really pops over black and makes it easy to see the differences. I tried to get all my fingers into one shot but sadly my hand doesnt work that way without a third arm so..you get these funky collages. Video here.

thumb: Phoenix Opal
Index: Chimera Opal
Middle: Dragon Opal
Ring: Kelpie Opal
Pinky: Unicorn Opal

Last but not least this is each topper sandwiched between an unknown number of layers of Shleee Strawberry Moon 4.0. I wanted to make it truly opal like so I did a normal amount of coats of each
(approximately 3) and then I didn't like the Shleee on top.  Video here. This goes as follows:

Thumb:Phoenix Opal
Index: Chimera Opal
Middle: Dragon Opal
Ring: Kelpie Opal
Pinky: Unicorn Opal

So will you be picking up any of these? I recommend all of them, haha. #sorrynotsorry

Starlight and Sparkles OGUP Group Customs

PRESS SAMPLES, provided for my honest review

Starlight and Sparkles Ghost Flakes and Unicorn Wishes

Haaayyyyyyy OGUP! I'm excited to show you the upcoming group custom toppers! I'm not really a topper person, not sure why but I neglect them. This has reminded me not to do that. I loved seeing how these transformed over different base colors as well as finishes. I've been really feeling matte lately and I'm truly a shimmer girl. With the right polish anything can happen apparently, even becoming a topper user. Onto the review and details!

  • Available only to members of OGUP at this time, excluding Obsidian. Sale details can be found there and varies if you are domestic or international.. Unicorn Wishes will return somewhere at a later time. Ghost Flakes is one time only. Both are limited to 300 bottles so be quick.
  • Photos taken in natural light and sunlight except where noted. In general my LED light didn't do these justice and/or the photos were redundant.
  • Neither of these are the red to green to gold shift but 2 different sibling pigments, also discontinued.
  • Comes with the cute charms!

GHOST FLAKES

Ghost Flakes is a topper with flakes that shift from glowing blue to violet to near invisibility with shimmer that shifts the same. Fun fact,"unicorn pee" pigments were made in both flakes and shimmer forms and that's the case with these. The flakes and shimmer are actually made of the same substance. Issa notes that these flakes are larger and more irregularly shaped than the shimmer and thicker than those you may be familiar with such as those used in Essie's Shine of the Times, Inglot and Nfu-Oh's polishes. I didn't have any trouble with them nor did I notice that they are thicker. One coat of my regular topcoat did the trick nicely. This is so perfectly named. In some lights and angles this absolutely glows and at an angle the flakes can almost disappear, especially IN PHOTOS grrr. It creates a beautiful opal effect.. I did try sponging this onto one naked nail. The result was very pretty, you can create an almost solid layer of flakes that really looks like a jewel but shows your natural nail beneath, much like looking at it in the bottle. Unfortunately without latex cleanup was a bear, those flakes loooove to stick to the skin and my camera would NOT capture this beauty, it must be seen in person to be appreciated.

  • 2 coats of Ghost Flakes over 2 thin coats of Obsidian, topcoated and matted. Only one coat is needed for a pretty and visible effect but I did 2 for the camera.
  • 1 coat of Ghost Flakes over various creme bases, topcoated and matted. It was very camera shy here, I should have used 2 coats for the cameras sake but the flakes are visible in person.
  • Easy to use formula, not runny or thick. Appropriate dry time, flakes lay down on the nail without any fuss.
  • Can be messy to remove as the flakes like to stick to skin, swipe down the nail.
  • $20,15ml, capped at 300, not returning.

    UNICORN WISHES

Unicorn Wishes is a combination color shifting shimmer and multichrome glitter topper. The shimmer is a "UP" sibling pigment that shifts from cool green, deep blue, flashes turquoise and indigo at extreme angles. The glitter shifts from teal green through blue, violet, purple and into fuschia. This is amazing matte, especially over grey and red, they really allow the shimmer to pop.

  • 2 coats over one thick coat of Obsidian, 2 coats over colored bases. topcoated and matted. again 2 coats really isn't necessary to get a nice effect but I wanted more glitters.
  • Easy to use formula. Not runny or sticky, good dry time.
  • No problems with removal, glitters are tiny.
  • $16, 15ml, one per person capped at 300 bottles at this time.

  • Natural light:

     Artificial light/LED:

    OBSIDIAN

Bonus shade! Obsidian is a cool black with a touch of shimmer that really adds to the complexity. Cool toned and a bit smoky, dries to a satin finish. Issa suggests using this under toppers to add dimension and I agree, plus it's pretty on it's own! I may wear black polish solo for the first time ever. Available now from Starlight.

    • 2 thin coats, can be worn in one thick coat. Shown in its natural finish, no topcoat.
    • Great formula, easy to control the amount and get full coverage.
    • Good dry time, quick but not so fast you get ridges or overworking is a problem.
    Obsidian, sunlight.
Thank you to Starlight for providing these polishes, they are all lovely. The group customs won't be available in the new 7.5ml half size but the rest of Starlight's catalog is and they are available now, rejoice!

    About me

Hello lovely readers and thank you for visiting my fledgling blog!
I found the indie community at a time my Narcolepsy was at its worst. Polish and makeup gave me something fun and low impact to do and pretty to look at. Pretty makes you feel a little better, ya know? Fast forward 3 years and I was frustrated with the lack of polish swatches available in various and natural light sources. I finally decided to try my hand at blogging and am dedicated to providing accurate swatches in as many light sources as possible. Additionally many indie brands do not provide makeup swatches on a persons face which I find very helpful. I currently post my makeup reviews and looks on Instagram but plan to start including them here too. I am not a writer, unless it's poetry so expect my posts to generally be to the point and full of photos. Oh yeah, about me. I am 26, coming up on my 6th wedding anniversary in a few months and am a fur mom to an adorable ferret who sleeps even more than me.
