Howdy ho my friends! Life has been a bit crazy so I am still behind on manicures and blog posts.
Today I want to show you a really yummy teal with color shifting shimmer. While I am currently obsessed with all shades of green, especially moss and olive, my traditional favorite color is teal. My sweet friend who picked up some polishes for me at Polish Con actually grabbed this for me as a sunrise extra. What a surprise it was because I looooooove the color and I am super picky. Oddly enough I actually saw swatches of this and overlooked it. It was extremely difficult to accurately photograph and is much nicer in person than most of the swatches I saw. Often the camera wants to pull cooler blue while its a true pine needle teal green. The formula was not easy to work with but the end result was worth the trouble.

BARONESS X THE ALCHEMIST COLLECTION

PRESS SAMPLES
Hey X Army and friends! Thank you so much for joining me today, I have a new collection from Baroness X for you and as usual these are lovely. Packed full of color shifting shimmers, multichrome, flakies, and holo, this set of jellies lives up to it's magical name. Baroness X is a brand I regularly purchase from so I'm very thankful and excited to swatch these for you guys! I especially love their scented bath and body items, stay tuned for a little blurb at the end. ;)  Picture heavy, consider yourself forewarned....they were just so pretty.

  • Releases on October 21st, 12 pm PST.
  • Sold individually for $11, Full size sets for $40, and 8 ml mini sets for $24. There will only 20 sets available so be on time! As a general mini hater I must tell you the tall bottles and full size brushes make these easy to use.
  • Language of the Universe and Elixir of Life are being sold as L.E due to some of the included pigments.
  • While these are described as jellies all but one built up in 2 or 3 coats on me, even with the attention loving nail line I am blessed with.
  • Photos not taken in natural light noted.
  • All shown with Glisten n Glow top coat. I don't do anything without this stuff or it's smudge city.
  • The blingy extras don't add any extra work when removing.
Bottle shot macros in artificial daylight.

LANGUAGE OF THE UNIVERSE

This is described as a berry jelly with blue to berry to red shimmer, silver holo flakies and holo pigment. The shift is predominately blue head on but the others come out to play at an angle. I would call this a multichrome as the shift is very obvious to me. Second favorite of the bunch as I'm a purple lovin' sheeple.
  • The formula was a little thick and began to dry very quickly due to all that glorious shimmer. Make sure to load enough for your whole nail on the brush, and work quickly and try not to  overwork it or you will get shimmer ridges and pull up what you already put down. Allow each layer to dry very thoroughly. Don't be an impatient pants like me.
  • These swatches show 2-3 coats, I swatched this twice. The first time was after long day, I was tired and impatient, I needed 3 coats to cover patches. I was also curious if a 3rd coat added depth to this or Elixir of Life, no difference. The second time I only needed 2 generous coats.
  • No staining and great wear, 3 days before I removed it without any chips.
  • Limited edition.

SOUL OF THE WORLD

Described as a royal blue jelly with "unicorn pigment" that shifts pink to gold to green, holo flakies, and linear holo. Personally I see this as lighter than royal blue and with the shimmer it appears quite periwinkle or blurple. The holo mostly shows in direct lighting such as sunlight and LED, otherwise it looks like a soft sprinkling of stars. This goes for all of these. Shimmer is most often pink, shifts at extreme angles and bright direct lighting.
  • 3 regular coats, very easy to use. Still some visible nail line but not very noticeable. We see you, OK?!
  • No staining or trouble removing.

LED, showin' off that holo.

PHILOSOPHER'S STONE

Demi describes this as an Emerald, almost teal jelly base with gold to green to teal colorshifting flakie shimmer, metallic gold flecks, and holo. I agree completely with this description and you guessed it...this one is my favorite. I tried not to choose the green..I really did. This shade is not overtly warm or cool so that makes it versatile, multi seasonal and in my opinion wearable on all skin tones. No lobster hands here! I LOVE those gold flecks.
  • 2 easy coats.
  • I can't report about staining as I only wore this for the swatch thus far. I always wear base coat and double up if I'm worried.

Full sun, hello holo and gold shimmer!

LED, at an angle. There's that deep pine teal.

LED macro because...why not?

ELIXIR OF LIFE

Hey pretty lady! I should really give red more of a chance. This is described a deep fuschia-red jelly, shimmer that shifts from purple to deep red, to fiery orange, metallic gold flakies, and holo pigment. Obvious shift, I hereby dub thee...multichrome. If I am understanding this wrong someone please correct me.
  • 2 generous coats. The formula is much easier to use than Language of the Universe but use the same techniques for flawless results.
  • Easy to remove.
  • Limited edition.

So glarey...but so pretty.

Baroness X also sent me a bubble bar to review. I purchased this one^ but expect a post on them soon. All of those bubbles are from 1/5 of a bar placed inside a mesh bag under the running faucet.
They are long lasting and smell wonderful. I think I may need a little more to smell it in my bath water. Yes,I did take the photo from inside the tub :).

So which shade is your favorite? Will you be picking up any smelly goods such as the acetone additive? Also love, btw. Let me know in the comments. If you are a new customer go ahead and make an account now because the rewards program is really nice and you may want to check out in a jiffy, especially if you are after minis.

VERY PICTURE HEAVY

                MYTHOLOGICAL NIGHT COLLECTION

Heeeeey errybody! ;) Today I have 7 beautiful new polishes from Starlight and Sparkles to show you.I am excited to be working with them as I love shimmer polishes, especially shifty ones. I have noticed that they don't seem well known which is such a shame.
Issa is debuting a new 10 piece collection titled Mythological Night and a new Mythological creature that is included in this and 2 other lines. There will be 5 blackened jelly color shifting shimmers and 5 black glitter and shimmer polishes. Most of these colors are the dark counterparts to light versions already available, except Kelpie and Chimera which are new.
I received 5 polishes from the Mythological Night collection and 2 Chimera polishes, additions to Mythological topcoats and Mythological.Auroras. I will give details of each individual polish as I go. These color shifting shimmers are so pretty and vampy but I actually fall in love with a topper. Who AM I? It's that good.
I really tried to a get nice outdoor group shot of these but the mosquitoes were insane! I covered completely up except my hands and face and they still bite my face 3 times in the 5 minutes I did this :/.Okay, let's get down to business, to defeat...err i mean..swatches!! (I have been on a musical kick lately, even more than usual :p. I watched 4 Disney and Pixar movies today while doing all of this.)

DRAGON NIGHT

Mythological Night Collection

This is a cool black base with shimmer that shifts through bronze/gold, emerald green, and flashes of orange and teal at the edges and extreme angles. I didn't get to see teal but I haven't had a chance to wear it for a few days and observe it in all lighting conditions.

Coats: 2 thick, with topcoat

Formula: a bit  thin and streaky but that may be due to the brushes being thinner than I am used to. I find that by getting more polish than usual on the brush I can create more even coats. This goes for all of these jelly shimmers. Slight learning curve but I didn't have to make any other adjustments to accommodate it, like sandwiching in a matte topcoat.

Price: $14.00 for 15 ml and $6.50 for 5 ml

KELPIE NIGHT

Mythological Night Collection

Kelpie Night is described as a cool black base with shimmer that shifts from teal to violet and flashes aqua and purple at the extreme edges. I wasn't able to observe or capture the violet or purple but it's definitely there in the bottle. I didn't have ideal lighting conditions today.

Coats: 3 regular coats with topcoat

Formula: easy to use, these do not run or pool but are a little streaky. Getting more polish on my brush solves the problem.

Price: $14 for 15 ml, $6.50 for 5 ml

PHOENIX NIGHT

Mythological Night Collection

This has a cool black base that shifts from red to gold to green and flashes vivid red and bright green at extreme angles. It's what some may call unicorn pee ;).  It shows mainly red in direct lighting but those other colors are there.

Coats: 3 regular coats, top coat

Formula: same as the others, built up easily.

Price: $14.00 for 15 ml, $6.50 for 5ml

UNICORN NIGHT

Mythological Night Collection

Cool Black base with shimmer that shifts from cool pine green to deep blue and flashes turquoise and vivid indigo. I think this one may actually be my favorite of these but I'm not sure, it's so hard to choose!

Coats: 3 regular coats

Formula: slightly streaky but builds up nicely.

Price: $14.00 for 15 l, $6.50 for 5 ml

As a side note, these also stamp but it's subtle against black and white.

CHIMERA AURORA NIGHT

Mythological Night Collection

Cool black base containing the shimmers used in Phoenix,Unicorn,Dragon, and Kelpie (also new!) polishes and iridescent glitter used in the Auroras. There isn't an obvious color shift but Issa describes Chimera as a points of light effect and I agree.

Coats: 3 with topcoat.

Formula: easy to use and builds up really well. Removal required very little force and no special methods.

Price: 15 ml: $16.50, 5 ml: $7

CHIMERA

Mythological Top Coats

The newest addition to the top coats collection, Chimera ended up being my favorite of the bunch! It's almost like holo but in shimmer form that allows the base to shine through. A whole slew of magical creatures excreted something on ma nails! The name is very clever since its a hybrid animal. This is a combination of Unicorn, Phoenix, Dragon, and Kelpie pigments.  I wore it over cremes only so it would be very clear what it look like but you better believe I'm slapping this over some shimmers soon! Especially purple...I liked it best over grey so I did a full swatch of it.

Coats: 2 over each creme. Obvious at 1 but I did 2 just to make sure it was visible in photos. Top coated.

Formula: easy peasy, since its clear based the thin brush didn't cause much of a concern.

Price: $12.50 15 ml, $5.75 5 ml

CHIMERA AURORA

Bet you can figure out the description of this one;) Can you tell I'm tired? haha
It looked so beautiful in the bottle I had to take a macro. #sorrynotsorry. Um....I didn't realize the label is holographic?! I put this over the same 4 cremes as above.

Coats: 1 coat over each base, topcoat.

Formula: Very easy to work with, tons of pigment and glitter, but easy and quick to remove, barely any scrubbing

Price: 15 ml $15.50, 5 ml $6.75

Did you make to the bottom ? Congrats and thank you! These will be releasing the evening of Friday the 13th, I don't have an exact time. I can't wait to see swatches of the other 8, especially Kelpie polishes!  Do you have a favorite here? I'm clearly a green lover but I'm pretty sure everyone needs Chimera and it's a such a good price for a topper with these pigments. Follow Starlight and Sparkles for updates, I will link social media below.

International customers, these will be available soon at Psyche's Beau.

About me

Hello lovely readers and thank you for visiting my fledgling blog!
I found the indie community at a time my Narcolepsy was at its worst. Polish and makeup gave me something fun and low impact to do and pretty to look at. Pretty makes you feel a little better, ya know? Fast forward 3 years and I was frustrated with the lack of polish swatches available in various and natural light sources. I finally decided to try my hand at blogging and am dedicated to providing accurate swatches in as many light sources as possible. Additionally many indie brands do not provide makeup swatches on a persons face which I find very helpful. I currently post my makeup reviews and looks on Instagram but plan to start including them here too. I am not a writer, unless it's poetry so expect my posts to generally be to the point and full of photos. Oh yeah, about me. I am 26, coming up on my 6th wedding anniversary in a few months and am a fur mom to an adorable ferret who sleeps even more than me.
