The Small Science, shown in various light sources with matte topcoat.

Are you ready for September's Polish Pickup? It opens this Friday! As a maker I sat this one out and I'm so glad I did, been incredibly busy with a new job. As a customer I'm a bit overwhelmed with how many things I want and no sales to help cover it 🙃. The theme is magic and alchemy and so many truly magical things have been created, the makers knocked this one out of the park. Bee's Knees will be offering 2 awesome purple items and has sent them to me for review. Yal know I love my purple.

For this look I have meshed old and new, I hope I have pulled off a somewhat 1950's flavor here. The dress is a Lularoe Amelia in the most lush fabric reminiscent of brocade. Bandeau hat is vintage 1950's, I thrifted it for $6! 😍 Bracelet by Sarah Briggs Jewelry.  Glasses by Zenni's.

PRESS SAMPLES, bottom right photo by MTK Design

For August's Polish Pickup them At the Carnival MTK Design and Forty Winks Jewelry both chose carousels as inspiration and have loosely collaborated to offer a coordinating set available separately within PPu. Mary kindly sent me her gorgeous necklace to review and well, Forty Winks is me 😉. We knew each other's general color schemes because of  our inspiration photos and agreed on bronze settings but otherwise each piece was created independently and I CANNOT get over how well they go together. I am thrilled that Mary agreed to collab with me! These will be available August 2-5th and are both limited quantities. Read on for details on each.

Bee's Knees August IPU Pop Pop Pop
PRESS SAMPLES
Bee's Knees has sent me their indie item for the upcoming Polish Pickup. Pop pop pop, a highly pigmented deep red lip balm that applies matte and scented to smell like kettlecorn. Inspired by Pennywise. This will be $5 and can be worn fully opaque or sheer. I love BKL's lip balm formula. It feels smoothing and protective but not waxy, sticky, or heavy. Long lasting and moisturizing. When I found out this was going to be popcorn scented I was scared because I normally despise that scent in products. (Along with bubbegum ans chocolate, I'm weird.) I am pleasantly surprised though, the scent is light and sweetened because of the kettle bit so I don't mind it and after a few minutes I don't notice anything at all.

PRESS SAMPLE
August's Polish Pickup theme is At The Carnival and Bee's Knees has created this gorgeous shimmer/multichrome, Find Yourself is inspired by the carnival scene at the beginning of Us Described as: a sandy tan polish with glowing green to purple/pink shimmer. (I see blue in there too.) Personally I'd cal this color cantaloupe. It will be $12 with no cap.

I've used 3 coats with glossy and matte topcoats in natural and artificial T5 full spectrum lights. This could be opaque at 2 coats if you have a less aggressive free edge. Their rounded brushes are my favorite. Easy to use formula, removes like a creme. The shimmer is prominent and may show lines so apply it in straight strokes, as few as possible.

Bee's Knees Tinted Lipbalms

PRESS SAMPLES

Bee's Knees has come out with new lip balms and I'm here for it! I absolutely love the formula and new shades are certainly welcome in my collection. Slightly firm to apply, they last for hours even through eating and drinking. It feels moisturizing and protective without being heavy or waxy. These add a pop of color which is really nice and smell amazing. $5 for tinted and $3.50 for clear.

Creamsicle- tinted with a bronze shimmer, this lip balm smells like the classic summer treat with orange sherbet and vanilla.

Cola Coke-tinted a pinky coral, this lip balm smells like the classic southern dessert that combines cola and chocolate cake.

NYX Liquid Suede Purple Bundle

I got this whole bundle at Marshall's for $5, I'm not sure if this bundle or individual shades are still available anywhere. I like this formula, it's very comfortable. long wearing, and doesn't crack. My favorite is Rule The World, I like Sway but I gave Amethyst to a friend as I just don't love it on me. My earrings are by Kristen Jarvis Art, glasses by Zenni Optical.

Femme Fatale Milo

partial transition

This was my top pick from Femme Fatale Cosmetics Princes and Heros Collection and the shift did not disappoint! The formula is tricky however. Described as a khaki green (warm state) to a warm-toned brown (cold state) thermal with soft blue glow. Because of the blue glow, the warm state can lean a bit rosy-pink. Personally I find the fully warm state to be brighter than khaki. This is actually still available but it's final stock and there's currently only 9 *cough* available. It was warm this day so I couldn't keep it fully cold long enough to snap a photo.

  • I've used it 2x and each time it is patchy and sheer, even at 3 coats as shown here it's not perfect but passable.Next time I'll use a nude base.
  • Shown in full spectrum T5 lighting, glossy top coat.

Pastel Multichromes Comparison

By request I have done a quick and dirty comparison of 4 POP Pastel Slicks with the 4 new Bee's Knees Pastel Multichromes. 3 coats of everything, no topcoats, no base, no clean up or edits. Don't looks too close, my cuticles are looking a bit scary. Natural lighting and T5 full spectrum. Honestly I don't think any are really dupes especially since POP is alot more "sparkly" and BKL are smooth.

Notoriously Morbid's Ritual of Moons pallet

Notoriously Morbid has created this beautiful pallet full of 12 shimmers and duochromes. Created and pressed in house, all shades are currently exclusive to the pallet. It retails for $45 but hasn't been excluded from sales and discounts. I've swatched it with my fingers on my bare arm. Creamy, pigmented, easy to blend. I resisted this at first but got it on impulse with a gift certificate I received as a gift.

Tonic Shampoo Bars

Tonic Polish has brought in Lindsey's sister Amy to create shampoo bars and they are wonderful! This is not a sponsored post but for full disclosure I was sent one free bar along with others I purchased and I continue to purchase. Free of sulfates, parabens, and silicone. They do contain nut oil. Because these are true soaps made with lye they suds very well, you just rub them on your wet head or anywhere else.

Ethereal Firesage

Ethereal Lacquer Firesage is an exclusive for Rainbow Connection, a stockist in the UK but I got it in a US group buy. You can find information for things like this in the Ethereal Lacquer Lovers Facebook group. This is a sage green creme base filled with beautiful red/green/gold aurora shimmer. I used 2 easy coats and topcoat.  I was very pleasantly surprised with the opacity and thoroughly enjoyed wearing this. Great formula, applied and removed effortlessly. Photos are taken in T5 full spectrum lights, as close to sunlight as I've seen. Video here.

Full spectrum T5 bulbs

I've finally gotten around to wearing some of the polishes I bought from Femme Fatale's Princes and Heros Collection. I chose 5 shades that I thought would be unique in my collection including this guy, Taran. I'm pleased he made it into this collection, I've always looked at The Black Cauldron as a lesser known movie. Eilowny made it though so I should have expected it I suppose. I need to combine them into one mani soon!

Starlight Polish Mythological Wishes Collection
PRESS SAMPLES
sent in exchange for my honest review

Starlight and Sparkles has sent me 6 beautiful new toppers to review. The Mythological Wishes collection consists of six toppers with combined color shifting shimmer and multichrome glitter!  The shimmer in these are unicorn pee and UP sibling pigments. On the Starlight and Sparkles website, purchasing four or more bottles of polish from the Mythological line in a single order will give a discount of 3.5% on all Mythological polishes in the order, which will be reflected in the cart as "Mythological line discount." That includes a lot more than just this collection, there are many offshoots of the Mythological line. Issa has nicknamed each unicorn pee shimmer after a mythological creature so it's easy to find the ones you like and the "Wishes" part refers to this chroma flair type glitter. These were used several years ago by a few different makers and Issa has been hoarding some for a while. Anyone remember Ninja's Facets collection? Mythological Wishes aren't meant to be dupes, they differ formula wise and in the balance of glitter and shimmer. Issa wanted these to be unicorn pee toppers accented by glitter, not equal parts. There were only 3 facets but those do have counterparts here. This is really exciting news to those of us who have been lemming those polishes, it's a nice opportunity for collectors to grab a similar backup for a beloved rare and discontinued and a different formula for those with a preference for Starlight's ready to use formula.

About me

Hello lovely readers and thank you for visiting my fledgling blog!
I found the indie community at a time my Narcolepsy was at its worst. Polish and makeup gave me something fun and low impact to do and pretty to look at. Pretty makes you feel a little better, ya know? Fast forward 3 years and I was frustrated with the lack of polish swatches available in various and natural light sources. I finally decided to try my hand at blogging and am dedicated to providing accurate swatches in as many light sources as possible. Additionally many indie brands do not provide makeup swatches on a persons face which I find very helpful. I currently post my makeup reviews and looks on Instagram but plan to start including them here too. I am not a writer, unless it's poetry so expect my posts to generally be to the point and full of photos. Oh yeah, about me. I am 26, coming up on my 6th wedding anniversary in a few months and am a fur mom to an adorable ferret who sleeps even more than me.
